Virga is a bi-annual publication. We read year-round, for the issues we release in Spring and Fall. The submission cut-off for Spring’s issue is March 31 and the cut-off for Fall’s is September 30th.
Please send us 3- 5 poems of any length in one document (.doc,.docx, or .pdf), via our Submittable portal. Virga only accepts previously unpublished work (this includes work that has appeared on a personal blog or a social media account).
Virga does not accept works of fiction or non-fiction. However, we will consider prose and narrative style poems and, on occasion, the “uncategorized” or “hybrid” piece.
If you’re a former contributor to Virga, please wait one year before submitting again.
To offset the costs of running and maintaining this publication, we do require a small submission fee ($2) via Submittable.
Please include a brief author bio with your submission.
Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but please let us know as soon as possible if your work has found a home elsewhere. You can do this by making a note in Submittable.
We ask for First North-American Serial Rights (FNASR) should your work be accepted. Upon publication, all rights revert back to the author.
Response times will vary. If you have not received a response after 4 months, feel free to send a query to firstname.lastname@example.org.
